In general, esp@cenet reads your query from right to left,processing each search string and operator action in turn to produce the results list. The operators may strongly affect the interpretation of your query:

The AND operator takes precedence over the OR operator.

Search terms linked by the AND Operator are processed before the search terms linked by the OR operator.

Example:

To find patents that have both the words mouse and trap, or patents that have the single word mousetrap in the title:

To ensure that the OR operator is interpreted first, you can enclose the search terms linked by the OR Operator in parentheses as a nested query.
