The Publication Date is the date on which the patent application was first published (or made available for public inspection).

Content:

The Publication Date can be entered in any of the following 4 formats:

Syntax (Day)

YYYYMMDD

Format (Day):

To find patent documents published on a particular day: The complete Publication Date is made up of the publication year (4 digits), the publication month (2 digits) and the publication day (2 digits)

YYYYMM

Format: (Month)

To find patent documents published in a particular month: The partial Publication Date, including the month, is made up of the publication year (4 digits) and the publication month (2 digits).

To find patent documents published in a particular year: The partial Publication Date, for the year only, is made up of the publication year (4 digits).

The Publication Date can also be formatted by the publication day (2 digits) followed by a slash "/", the publication month (2 digits), followed by a slash "/" and the publication year (4 digits).
