Definition:

The Priority number is one or more of the Application Numbers for which priority rights are claimed.

Content:

The Priority Number is the same as the Application Number of the claimed priority patent document.

A patent family is a set of patents, which have one or more Priority Numbers in common. For more information with regard to the priority number, please consult The patent family systems".

Syntax:

CCYYYYnnnnnnn or CC for the Priority Number or
YYYYMMDD for the Application Date

Format:

The Priority Number is made up of a Country Code (2 letters), the year of filing (4 digits) and a serial number (variable, 7 digits) A serial number having less than 7 digits must be completed to 7 digits by adding leading zero"s.

Alternatively, the leading zero's can be omitted entirely in the serial number.

To retrieve all the documents having a particular country code in combination with other entries (dates, etc.), it is sufficient to enter the Country Code (2 letters).
