Definition:

The Application Number is the number assigned to a patent when the patent application is filed.

Content:

This number is different from the Publication Number, which is assigned when the patent application is published.

Syntax:

CCYYYYnnnnnnn or CC for the Application Number or
YYYYMMDD for the Application Date

Format:

The Application Number is made up of a Country Code (2 letters), the year of filing (4 digits) and a serial number (variable, maximal 7 digits) A serial number having less than 7 digits must be completed to 7 digits by adding leading zero"s.

Alternatively, the leading zero's can be omitted entirely in the serial number.

To retrieve all the documents having a particular country code in combination with other entries (dates, etc.), it is sufficient to enter the Country Code (2 letters).

Format:

The Application Date is made up of the year of filing (4 digits), followed by the month of filing (2 digits) and completed by the day of filing (2 digits).
